All of us use a sim card, micro sim, nano SIM or a mini sim card. But in future we would not be using any sim card in our smartphones instead of that we would be using an e-sim or I shall say embedded sim.

Earlier we used to have only a mini sim card but then in some smartphones there came a different type of slot i.e. for a micro sim. Then, iPhone which believes in doing things differently had opted to go for nano sim which created a huge panic among people. In case, you have to store a sim card and you do not have a spare device to put it in, it’s a huge problem as it is so small and there are huge chances of it getting lost and nowadays we have non removable back covers in our smartphones so we have to put our Sims via sim tray and opening and closing it and putting sim is an uphill and irritating task. So now comes the saviour 'e-sim' to solve your problem. The one who keep track on the technological advancement might know that Apple used this tech in its iWatch and some iPad models as well and Samsung also incorporated this feature in its gear smartwatch series. A sim card is basically a chip which has a very less memory enough to store your contacts and does the work of receiving signal, enabling you to call and text and use internet on the go on your smartphones. So e-sims are nothing but the hardware of sim cards already embedded inside your smartphone.

It’s a great idea and offers you a great utility as if you want to port your number from one telecom service provider to another then you do not have to change your sim card physically and waiting for its activation. All this task would then be online which can be easily done through the app of that particular telecom service provider via a login ID and password. Currently it is being used in many countries and if you know Apple launched two versions of Apple I watch 3rdgeneration one with a sim card (e-sim) and second without it. You won’t get the first version in India because it uses e-sim technology which is currently not available in India. In future all gadgets like your smartphones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches etc. all will come with this tech and enable us to use same number in multiple devices.
It is a great idea as it is more secure ,safe and authentication is also easy and faster.
